The HUB provides a wide variety of community programs, classes, and workshops that celebrate the food, arts, culture, and ecology of Kohala. We offer programs geared towards all ages and learning levels, from keiki (children) to kupuna (elders) alike.


PROCLASS REGISTRATION

Register for classes from the comfort of your own home, by logging onto our online system, ProClass. If you prefer to pay cash or check, pay a visit to the Front Desk (open daily from 8am-7pm).

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How are the classes priced?
A: Most classes are offered at a discounted monthly rate, but a few are priced Hourly or by Session. All classes have a Drop-in rate for out-of-town visitors or if you want to try it out before committing to the whole month. 

  • Monthly Packages - are priced per calendar month (not to be confused with a 30-day period). 
  • Session Packages - are priced according to specific session dates. Participants are encouraged to commit to the entire session as absences will not be refunded. 
  • Suggested Donation - Donations can be made at the Front Desk or directly to the Instructor.

Q: How do I register for classes?
A: We are transitioning from the HUB Punchcards to an online registration system called ProClass. To register, all one would have to do is click the "Register Here" button and create an account. Sub-accounts can be created for children so parents can easily manage multiple accounts all in one place. 

Q: What if I have a HUB Punchcard I still want to use?
A: The deadline to use up punchcards is June 30, 2017. If there are any extenuating reasons why you are unable to use up the punchcards, please contact the Programs office.

Program Descriptions

After School Art

Session Dates: September 6-December 13 | Wednesdays 3:00-5:00pm
Age: 6-10 years
Session cost is $80/monthly; Drop-in cost is $25.00
Instructor: Cathy Morgan
Location: HUB Club

Description: Kids get involved in learning activities using recycled materials, paint, sculpture, clay, printing techniques and much more. Participants are encouraged to make a commitment to the entire session. 

 

Art & Theatre Camp

Session Dates: July 17-23 | Daily 9:00am-1:00pm
Age: 7-12 years 
Session cost is $125/session; No Drop-ins
Instructor: Cathy Morgan & Jack Boyle
Location: HUB Club

A week-long Arts & Theatre Production Summer Camp. Create masks, puppets and script to a production of “The Wayfinder.” Participants will provide own lunch and snack. There will be a hoʻike performance for parents on Sunday, July 23 from 4:00-5:00pm in the HUB Barn.

 

Ceramics, Open Studio

Session Dates: May 2 - Dec 19 | Tuesdays 6:00-8:00pm
Age: Ages 13 – Adult
Session cost is priced $5.00/hour; 1-hour minimum
Instructor: Volunteer Studio Monitors
Location: Clay Cottage

Description: Open studio is independent work. Prior experience with ceramics is required since no instruction is given during this time. The use of tools, slab roller, wheels, wedging tables is included in the hourly fee ($5/hour; 1 hour minimum). However, clay, glazes and firings are individually purchased. Please see the Volunteer Monitor for these purchases (CASH ONLY). Enjoy the small studio space and four electric wheels available at the Kohala Village HUB clay cottage.

 

Keiki Ceramics

Session Dates: Calendar Month | Tuesdays 3:00-5:00pm
Age: 5-18 years
Session cost is priced $65/monthly; Drop-in cost is $20.00

Location: Clay Cottage

Description: Ceramics is the perfect activity for exploring your creativity in 3D. This 2-hour class is a great introduction to clay modeling for all skill levels. Please inquire about HUB sponsorships for this amazing class!

 

Early Learning

Cathy Morgan implements her decades of experience working with youth in this fun program designed with toddlers in mind. Snacks are provided; though instructor may charge additional fees to supplement meals.

 

Early Learning Summer Camp

Kids Cook! Around the World

Description: An exciting way of picking up some cooking basics while learning about different cultures through the cuisine, music and crafts from countries around the world! Ballet Adults

Description: In ballet, every inch of the body is actively engaged in movement, increasing flexibility, strength, and balance. The benefits of ballet as an adult include improvement in posture and poise; sculpting and toning long, lean muscle; and helping to relieve stress.

Kohala Ecstatic Dance Jam

Description: Ecstatic Dance offers a drug/alcohol free space where community gathers into the arms of the Great Mystery to dance and be danced. Percussionists welcome. Bring a healthy dish for a post-dance potluck and enjoy the time for comraderie. The HUB is very grateful for the generosity of Catalina Caine and the revolving group of DJs who give all donations to support our community programs.

Salsa

Description: Capoeira is a dynamic expression of Afro-Brazilian culture. All classes begin with warm up stretches before delving into different levels of cardio and capoeira movements set to great music and beats.

Pilates Plus

Description: The Pilates Plus Fitness Class is an effective and playful blend of movement modalities based on the foundation of Pilates core strength mat training. Incorporating elements of Qi Gong, Yoga and Dance this class will build core strength, increase stamina and flexibility.

Restorative Yoga

Session Dates: Once a month | Last Wednesday of the month 4:00-5:30pm

Description: Yoga poses that restores the body in a variety of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual states. The antidote to stress is to rest deeply. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat and supportive props (i.e. blanket and a couple of firm pillows).

Description: The serene environment of our Hale is the perfect environment for Tai Chi enthusiasts to gather and practice this meditative art. Facilitators will assist those who are new to Tai Chi, Qi Gong and Meditation.

Jan Yoga

Description: All-levels are welcome to attend. Beginners can go through the sequence at their own speed while those who want to advance their yoga development will be introduced to more challenging postures.

There will be no class: October-November; Sunday, December 24 and 31 in observance of the holiday eves.

 

HĀNAI KOHALA WORKSHOPS:

"Hānai" means to adopt, to be close; to nourish, to sustain. Please join us for our Hanai Kohala Workshops featuring hands on, learn "how to" and "what to do" with specific foods. 

Hānai Kohala is a series of 3 workshops offered through the remainder of the year on the third Saturday of odd months (July, September & November). Early Bird Deal! $100/series for all 3 Kilohana Kohala workshops if you register before July 5th! Registration for an individual workshop is $40 | Drop-in $50

Participants will learn how to breakdown a lamb carcass.

Sep 16 | Probiotics/Fermentation

Participants will learn how to make probiotic, enzyme-rich fermented foods and beverages. Fermented foods are an easy and inexpensive way to boost your health and naturally improve your digestion.

Nov 18 | ʻUlu 
9:00am-12:00pm 
Participants will learn how to prepare ʻulu in traditional Micronesian methods.
